Why is Emotional Safety so Important?

When we don't feel safe . . .

We cannot play, learn, be curious or have fulfilling, stable and intimate relationships.

We lose our capacity to connect when we feel unsafe.

It becomes very difficult to ask for help or support. You feel that you need to do it all on your own.

With emotional safety . . .

We are supporting a child to regulate their own nervous system so that they can focus and find new possibilities.

For example, if a child is struggling with a math problem and their stress levels are increasing, you first need to help them calm their nervous system and feel safe. Then from there they will be able to engage with the challenge and not feel overwhelmed.
